Cat-Cheer

jet-black, coal-black, pitch black with sea-green eyes

Persi (short for persistence or perseverance) whichever you prefer, is our cat. The story is, that she followed my 12-year-old daughter home after school, to which my response was,
“no! We REALLY don’t need a pet!” This small, black cat had a bite out its ear and looked up at me, soulfully. No! My heart was hardened, thinking of the responsibility and yet-another-mouth-to-feed. Persi had other ideas, she threw herself at the screen door, way into the small hours.Over and over again –  hence her name.
“O.K. I’ll give you some milk.” (The rest is history.)

This jet-black, coal-black, pitch-black cat with sea-green eyes and fur as soft as cream, IS the best pet in the known universe. Persi will wait outside for you in the driveway after work, if there’s someone at the door, she will leap off the sofa to give a feline warning or welcome. If you call her name, she comes, and in all the fourteen years she has been with us, has given her best in affection, comfort and wisdom. In her old age Persi has become quite vocal and needy, waking us up, often several times in the night. (Reminding myself, that I too may become old and frail – and require patience and help.) It’s been a privilege to share my time with this true friend of the feline variety. So, cheers to Cats!
