A rescue kitten, “Otto – 4 weeks old”
Ginger, bright-eyed, sweet.
The rescuers, teenagers,
Caught up with its cuteness
Did not think to shut the door
On the old, family dog..
The dog snatched up the kitten in its jaws
Snapping its spine instantly.
That mortal second spinning in the air,
Cruel, capricious chance! “On no! No!”
Mewling, poor, paralysed, kitten doomed,
As teens distressed, distraught, horror-struck!
The vet killed the kitten for them
And emailed them — the bill.
